The Kraken infantry unit (Ukrainian: Спецпідрозділ «Кракен» Spezpidrosdil "Kraken") is an independent reconnaissance and commando unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The unit was formed on February 24, 2022 - the first day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine - in Kharkiv with demobilized veterans of the Azov Regiment and volunteers. Therefore, in addition to the Kraken symbols, some of the fighters also wear those of the Azov Regiment and, like them, profess Ukrainian nationalism, whose main task is to protect residents from attackers.
