The SOBR (Russian: Специальные отряды быстрого рагирования, German: Rapid Special Response Force) is a special operations unit of the Russian National Guard. The Interior Ministry's units OMON and SOBR were incorporated into the newly created National Guard in 2016. The core tasks of the special unit SOBR (Spezialnyj Otrjad Bystrogo Reagirowania) are to support police departments in the search for and combating certain types of crime such as drug and economic crime, to support dangerous operations such as hostage-taking, shootings and arrests of violent criminals, as well as to protect endangered witnesses, victims, judges and prosecutors. The personal protection of the President and the Prime Minister is also the responsibility of SOBR.
