The shield-shaped motif with the German federal eagle, crossed swords, and Iron Cross is rendered in a dark IR reflector finish and can reflect visibly under infrared light / night vision technology. Thanks to its compact shield format, the patch is ideal for plate carriers, body armor, backpacks, pouches, helmets, patch walls, or collector-oriented Bundeswehr setups.

The symbol combines several typical elements of German military and national insignia: The German federal eagle stands for state sovereignty and military leadership, the crossed swords are considered a traditional symbol of the Army and also refer to the earlier Army Office symbolism. The Iron Cross is the well-known national insignia of the Bundeswehr, while the shield shape underscores its character as a unit or service station insignia.

The Kommando Heer was established in 2012 and is based in Strausberg. It is the central planning, leadership, guidance, and control instrument of the Inspector of the Army. Among others, divisions as well as central training and development service stations of the Army are subordinate to the Kommando Heer.
